FAQ
Q1: Is the Carbon X3 fully sealed for saltwater use?
A1: The Carbon X3 features six key sealing points and an IPX6 rating, making it ideal for freshwater and light inshore saltwater use. For heavy, daily offshore saltwater, we recommend pairing it with regular rinsing and basic maintenance, or considering a reel specifically built for that environment.
Q2: How light is the Carbon X3 compared to other reels?
A2: The 2000 size Carbon X3 weighs as little as 5.6 oz, making it one of the lightest all-round spinning reels in the 2000 category. It is significantly lighter than our previous Carbon X2 while also enhancing structural strength.
Q3: What sizes are available?
A3: The Carbon X3 lineup covers sizes from 1000 to 3000 to cater to everything from ultralight creek trout and panfish to larger bass, walleye, and light inshore species. The 1000 model is expected to launch in Q4.
Q4: Can I use braided line on the Carbon X3?
A4: Yes. The spool is designed to handle both braided and monofilament lines. We recommend using backing or a few wraps of tape when spooling braid to prevent slippage.
Q5: Which gear ratio should I choose?
A5: The 6.0:1 high‑speed option is ideal for covering water quickly, burning baits and staying tight on fast‑running fish. The 5.2:1 “golden” ratio offers more torque and control for slow presentations and cold‑water techniques. Choose based on your primary style – or get one of each.
Q6: How does the Carbon X3 compare to the Carbon X2?
A6: Compared to the Carbon X2, the Carbon X3 is lighter, offers more line capacity in the same spool size, adds IPX6 sealing and upgrades to a fully sealed 8+1 stainless steel bearing system, while keeping the smooth drag and value Carbon reels are known for.
